The American Welding Society (AWS) is the world's largest professional society in the field of welding and joining technology, with more than 70,000 members. The goals of the AWS is to advance the science, technology and application of welding and related joining and cutting processes worldwide, including additive manufacturing, brazing, soldering and thermal spraying.
In November, Professor Peter Mayr became one of only three scientists in 2022 to be named a Fellow of the American Welding Society. In his laudation, Prof. Suresh Babu of the University of Tennessee explained the award, "Prof. Dr. Peter Mayr is being recognized for his outstanding achievements in researching the process-structure-property relationships of welded joints of high-temperature steel alloys, for his distinguished academic career and strong commitment to educating a new generation of welding and materials engineers and scientists, and for his lasting contributions to the American Welding Society and the international professional community."
Prof. Mayr received the AWS Fellow award, with presentation of the honorary plaque and medal, from AWS President Dr. W. Richard Polanin at a ceremony held at the AWS Annual Meeting in Atlanta.
