Subproject:
Multi-scale modelling of the damage process in the localized fracture process zone of a carbon short fibre reinforced high performance concrete under high cyclic tensile and flexural stress.
Project Description:
The loading of normal and high-strength concrete leads to a failure that can be described as a three-phase process of an accumulated damage evolution. Tensile or flexural stress results in the formation of a locally limited area in which a crack is formed that is oriented at approximately right angles to the direction of stress. High-cyclic and static load experiments are carried out to investigate the damage evolution. The results are used together with high-resolution CT images to create a multi-scale model of the damage development. The objective of the NDT within the subproject is the acquisition and characterization of the internal damage to enable a comparison to surface-based methods. The methods of acoustic emission analysis and coda wave interferometry are used for this purpose.
